Rosemary Party Pizzas

Course: Appetizer
Keyword: rosemary
Author: Anita Lotz

Ingredients

  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1 pound pork sausage like Jimmy Dean’s (mild or hot)
  • 1 pound processed cheese like Velveeta, cubed
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 teaspoon fresh rosemary finely chopped
  • ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper if desired when using mild sausage
  • 1 package cocktail rye/pumpernickel bread

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 400 degrees F.
  • Place ground beef and sausage to a large skillet and cook over medium-high heat until browned. Use a potato masher, fork or similar utensil to break up the clumps of meat while cooking. Drain off excess fat.
  • Add the Worcestershire sauce, cayenne and rosemary to the meat mixture and heat through another 1 – 2 minutes.
  • Reduce heat to medium-low and add cheese cubes to the seasoned meat mixture. Stir often as the cheese melts. Remove from heat when all of the cheese has melted and the meat and cheese mixture is well combined.
  • Place cocktail bread slices on a cookie sheet. Top each slice with approximately 1 ½ tablespoons of the meat mixture.
  • Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the bread is toasted and the cheesy topping is bubbling.
  • Serve warm or at room temperature.

Notes

Notes: These can be made ahead of time. Complete the recipe but instead of baking right away, freeze the prepared bread slices in a single layer. Remove and store in a freezer bag. When ready to serve, remove the bread slices from the bag and bake as directed in the recipe.
