Herbal Work Study: Balms
September 12 – 8:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. (8:00 a.m. sign-in). The first two hours will be spent weeding, grooming, thinning, planting, or whatever else needs doing in the Herb Garden. The last hour will be spent learning ways to make herbal balms, lotions, and salves. Sherri will have cold water and insect repellant (if needed) available, you bring your favorite hand tools for weeding and grooming (soil knives, Cape Cod weeders, old kitchen knives, trowels, pruners, gloves, etc. – no hoes or rakes needed, though). Everyone will get to go home with a handout that includes tips and general information. Please arrive at the Horticulture Building in the south end of the parking lot between 8:00 a.m. and 8:15 a.m. The group will leave the building promptly at 8:30 a.m. Please dress appropriately: sun hats and closed-toe shoes are suggested. Please note this learning opportunity is “purchased” via a barter system: you must work the first two hours (8:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.) to attend the last hour of class (10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.), making this a free event! If you have any questions not covered here, call Sherri McCalla @ 901-636-4134.
